Xero – Occupancy
Overview & Client Context
Elevate was engaged to design and deploy an occupancy and entry sensor solution across multiple office locations in Napier, Auckland, and Wellington. The client required improved visibility of workspace utilisation to support data-driven decision-making around space planning, operational efficiency, and workplace experience. The initiative formed part of a broader global strategy to optimise real estate usage and better understand employee movement patterns across offices of varying scale and complexity.
Challenge
The key challenge was to implement a consistent and scalable sensor solution across geographically distributed sites, each with different requirements and levels of existing coverage.
The solution needed to ensure high data accuracy, minimal disruption during installation, and seamless integration with existing systems. Additionally, the deployment had to balance cost efficiency with the need for meaningful, actionable insights.
Solution & Delivery
Elevate designed a tailored deployment approach aligned to each site’s requirements while maintaining a consistent technology framework. In Napier, full occupancy sensor coverage was implemented to provide comprehensive visibility of workspace utilisation across the entire office. In Auckland, existing coverage was extended with additional occupancy sensors and entry sensors deployed across two floors to improve both utilisation tracking and entry flow analysis. For the Wellington office, entry sensors were installed across five floors to capture detailed ingress and egress data, enabling accurate measurement of building usage patterns. The solution leveraged a scalable sensor platform capable of real-time data collection and integration into reporting tools for ongoing analysis.
Deployment was executed in a phased manner to minimise disruption, with careful planning around installation, calibration, and validation to ensure data accuracy. Standardised configurations and centralised management enabled consistency across all locations.
Outcomes & Benefits
The deployment provides the client with reliable, real-time insights into occupancy and movement patterns across all three offices. This enables more informed decisions around space utilisation, capacity planning, and workplace optimisation.
In Napier, full visibility supports detailed analysis of how space is used, while Auckland benefits from enhanced coverage and improved understanding of floor-level activity. In Wellington, entry sensor data delivers clear insights into building traffic across multiple floors.
Overall, the solution establishes a scalable foundation for ongoing workplace analytics, supporting cost optimisation, improved employee experience, and future expansion as organisational needs evolve.
